Robert Sorby 2000KT
By Geoff Pullin
I have the Robert Sorby 2000KT Multi-Tip/Shear Scraper.
With this tool I could hollow out to a depth of about 5 inches but deeper than this created a problem due to a lack of control of the cutting edge. Extending the handle was the answer!
The length of my handle was 12 inches. I squared the non-tool end of the tool of the handle, drilled a 3/8 in. diameter hole into this about 1 in. deep to take a doweling rod. The size of this is not important, but 3/8 in. would be a minimum. (You can turn a dowel to suit your drill size)
Then I turned an extension, 6 in. long to match the existing handle (Ash). I drilled the end to take the dowel and glued it all together.
The new handle is a huge improvement on the original: try it and see for yourself.
